If you've ever wondered, "What does being hypnotised feel like?" you're in for a fascinating journey. However, that's a hard question to answer for sure, as experiences of hypnosis can vary widely from person to person (and even session to session), and there isn't a single universal description of what it feels like.
Still, there are some common elements that people may report during a hypnotherapy session:
-
Deep Relaxation: Many people describe feeling deeply relaxed during hypnosis. It's often compared to the state of relaxation experienced just before falling asleep, when meditating, or when engrossed in a captivating book or movie.
-
Increased Concentration: Hypnosis often involves heightened focus and concentration. Your attention may become more inwardly directed, and external distractions may fade away.
-
Altered Perception of Time: You might notice (or you might not) that time seems to pass differently during hypnosis. It may feel like a session is much shorter or longer than it actually is.
-
Suggestibility: Hypnosis is often associated with increased suggestibility. This means that you will be more open to positive suggestions or therapeutic intervention that I offer.
-
Heightened Imagery and Creativity: You might experience vivid mental imagery and metaphors. This can be useful in therapeutic contexts, such as when working on visualisation techniques for relaxation or problem-solving. If you take meaning for yourself and your life from the metaphor, you are more likely to accept change.
-
Detached Observer: Some individuals feel like they are observing their thoughts and experiences from a slightly detached perspective. This sense of detachment can contribute to a feeling of comfort, control, and safety.
-
Selective Attention: During hypnosis, your attention can become more selective. You might be highly focused on certain thoughts or suggestions while being less aware of peripheral stimuli. You may even fall asleep but my voice will go with you.
-
Enhanced Memory: In some cases, hypnosis has been associated with improved recall of memories. However, it's important to note that I often get you to analyse your memories from a different perspective, so that you can gain control over the emotions that are connected to those memories.

So, it doesn't feel like "going under"
It's crucial to understand that being hypnotised doesn't involve losing consciousness or awareness. People under hypnosis are usually fully aware of their surroundings and could choose to end the hypnotic state at any time. Additionally, not everyone is equally susceptible to hypnosis, and individual experiences can vary.
Rather than being unconscious, I prefer to describe the feeling as being hyper-conscious. It's almost like the conscious mind becomes a silent observer, and the more powerful subconscious mind gains a singular focus on whatever it is you would like to change in your life.
As a trained, qualified, and experienced hypnotherapist, I have helped a lot of people who thought they could not be hypnotised. Almost everyone says that it doesn't feel like what they expected. Some people have said it has felt different each time they have done it. I have even had people who said that they didn't believe they were hypnotised - but they achieved the results that they were looking for anyway...
huh...
Like, you have had this daily habit for over 40 years, and you're not sure if the hypnotherapy had any effect, but you just decided to change your behaviour at around the same time as you stepped out of my clinic?

Welcome to a realm where the power of the mind takes centre stage, and transformations become not just possible, but imminent.
1. Embrace Relaxation: Imagine being shown how to relax fully and quickly, where the weight of the world seems to lift off your shoulders. Sarah Jessica Parker, renowned actress, shares her experience, "It felt like a serene escape, a mental spa day. I could feel the tension melting away, leaving me in a blissful state."
Hypnotherapy is often likened to a guided meditation, a process that eases your mind into a state of profound relaxation. As your mind unwinds, the hypnotic state opens a gateway to your subconscious, the epicenter of your habits and beliefs.
2. Heighten your Awareness: Psychologist Dr. Jordan Peterson, describes the heightened awareness during hypnosis, saying, "It's like stepping into a room you never knew existed within your own mind." This heightened state of awareness allows you to explore thoughts and emotions more deeply, providing a unique perspective on your behaviors.
During hypnotherapy, your mind becomes exceptionally receptive to positive suggestions. Whether it's quitting smoking or overcoming anxiety, this heightened awareness can empower you to make profound changes.
3. Rewrite your Script: Oprah Winfrey, media mogul and advocate for personal growth, shares her insights, "Hypnotherapy helped me rewrite my life script. It's like editing a movie, but for your mind."
In the hypnotic state, your subconscious becomes open to suggestion. This is where we deliver the direct suggestion about the things in you life you tell me you want to change - I guide you to rewrite negative scripts and replace them with positive, empowering beliefs. For those on the journey to quit smoking and vaping, this is a pivotal moment in breaking free from the shackles of addiction.
With hypnotherapy, the possibilities are as vast as the horizons of your mind.
