You probably have come to this page because we have spoken already and this is the most convenient way to pay your deposit upfront.
Or maybe you are just keen to get cracking.
Maybe you started vaping to stop smoking,
or maybe you didn't,
or maybe you've never vaped,
or maybe you've never smoked.
The fact is, it's the same part of your brain that is sending out that impulse.
And it's an impulse for instant gratification.
You have constructed a habit with the way that you respond to that impulse, and your subconscious has been convinced over a long period of time that smoking or vaping is helping you with some emotion that is attached to that impulse.
So, what happens when you smoke over a long period of time (and especially when you go back to smoking when you ARE able to stop) is you convince your subconscious part of our mind that there's a good reason why you're smoking - even if, consciously you don't know what that reason is, or consciously you may even believe there are no good reasons the smoke.
Your subconscious watches the patterns in your behaviour and it locks in, and makes automatic, those ones which it feels like is helping you with something - maybe like stress or boredom, or maybe even just giving you a pleasure or comfort.
Once it gets locked in there and made automatic, it's very hard to beat with your conscious willpower alone because you have set up this tug of war in your mind.
Now when you try to stop smoking your subconscious is pulling in the opposite direction and almost making you smoke.
The way hypnosis works for smoking is:
- it's not about tricking your mind
- or getting it or do something against your will
It's just about getting you into a state where you're relaxed enough that i can talk to that subconscious part of your mind directly, and get your subconscious to understand and accept three things which you already know consciously:
- The reason you started smoking in the first place was a mistake - maybe the biggest mistake of your life - and if you went back to smoking after you able to stop, then that was a mistake too.
- It's no longer serving you any wothwhile purpose in your life! It's not helping you with stress or boredom, (as you're still stressed and still bored; now you're just smoking while you're stressed and bored) and it's probably not even giving you that much pleasure of comfort anymore, because it's become a habit you just can't seem to break.
- You want this habit to stop now!
If your subconscious can understand and accept those three things, and you consciously believe those same 3 things, then you get that alignment in your mindset where you're able to make the decision to stop smoking and now your subconscious will support that decision. (Rather than pulling in the opposite direction, which is what it's doing now).
The way I get your subconscious to understand and accept those three things is in a two hour session, where the first hour is an interview. That's the most important part for me, because that's where I find out:
- more about you,
- your smoking habits,
- your triggers and motivations, and
- all the things you've connected to smoking in your mind over the years
Once I know that, I can use your words as much as possible, so that the hypnosis part doesn't feel like a stranger telling you what to do - it feels more like something you're telling yourself you want to change, and you have almost written the script for it yourself.
Time to set aside:
2 hours + , with the first 45 - 60 minutes being an interview.
7 out of 10 people stop smoking and vaping for life after just one session.
But that means 3 out of 10 people do need a backup session, and most of those need a backup session quite soon after the initial session.
What that suggests to me is:
perhaps there is something still in your subconscious that believes you're getting some sort of benefit from vaping or smoking; and maybe we didn't talk about it, because maybe you're not aware of what it is, or maybe you've forgotten about it, because maybe it entered your subconscious a long time ago and it's no longer relevant in your life.
I offer free backup sessions for life - so if you ever do start smoking or vaping again, just let me know.
(Preferably before it becomes a daily habit, but even if it has become a daily habit again...)
The way the first backup session works is:
I get you to communicate with your own subconscious so that it can reveal the final thing that it's holding onto; and when you become aware of that, then you get control over it - but, it's very hard to get control over something you don't understand or you are not even aware of.
As I said, 7 out of 10 people only need one session, and keep the free backup session as an "insurance policy" should they ever relapse 3, 5, 10 years into the future.
Sometimes, however, there's an emotional connection you've made in your subconscious that we don't get to, and you will know if this is the case for you very quickly - like unbearable craving or instant relapse. In that case we'll do the backup ASAP and it always works, because you identify the very root of the problem. Guaranteed that smoking or vaping is not helping you with that problem. You will see that and let it go instantly.
If you have any questions about this, I can explain it much better verbally than via text.
I will use your words to break the connections in your subconscious, so it doesn't feel like a stranger telling you what to do - we will agree on what you want me to tell your mind so that the cravings disappear.
The main thing is - you need to be ready to stop. The only reason why this doesn't work is if you don't commit to your decision to stop smoking - or vaping - for life.
Tips to ensure success:
-
Start mentally preparing yourself to stop vaping and/or smoking - if you tell yourself that this will work for you, then it will work.
-
Plan to run out of cigarettes / vapes before you see me, so that you have the least amount of temptation. If you have any left, I will invite you to leave it with me.
-
If there's a place at home where you normally smoke a lot, rearrange the furniture in that area, or better still - give it a makeover - just before you see me. This will provide a strong visual cue to your subconscious mind that "something has changed"; it's up to you to maintain that change in your habits.
-
Think of all the triggers and motivations you have for smoking and/or vaping, and let me know those in the interview before your session - that will allow me to break all those connections in your subconscious once and for all.
-
Take out a piece of paper when you get a quiet moment and draw 3 columns.
1. Reasons why I want to stop smoking / vaping.
2. Benefits expected.
3. Negative consequences of not changing.
Spend a while expanding on each item,
eg. Money - how much per year, and what would you rather do with that money?
Health - what has it done to your health in the past, and what are the worst case scenarios for your health in the future, and what impact would that have on your family and loved ones?
Bring this with you to your appointment.
-
Understand that your subconscious may believe that it is protecting you in some way by reminding you to smoke or vape. I know this might not make sense to your conscious mind, but a pattern you created long ago could be "locked in". If you can pinpoint the reason why that is, please be ready to discuss that with me. I know this can be an awkward, embarrassing, or even painful conversation, but this will be the key to letting go of the habit. I never judge anyone - I just want you to stop vaping and/or smoking.
Differences in Hypnotherapy Approaches for Smoking and Vaping
At Switch-Up Hypnotherapy, we understand that smoking and vaping are different habits that may require tailored approaches for effective cessation. Here's how our hypnotherapy methods differ for each:
Hypnotherapy for Smoking
Addressing Physical Addiction: The primary challenge in stopping smoking is the physical addiction to nicotine. Our hypnotherapy sessions focus on breaking this addiction by reprogramming the subconscious mind to reduce cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Through guided visualisation and positive reinforcement, we help clients associate smoking with negative experiences and feelings, while promoting healthier alternatives.
Behavioural Triggers: Smoking is often linked to specific routines or triggers, such as drinking coffee, socialising, or dealing with stress. Our hypnotherapy sessions identify these triggers and work on changing the associated behaviours. By creating new, healthier habits and coping mechanisms, clients can effectively manage the urge to smoke in various situations.
Emotional Connection: Many smokers develop an emotional attachment to smoking as a coping mechanism for stress, anxiety, or other emotional challenges. Our approach includes addressing these underlying emotional issues, helping clients develop healthier ways to cope and manage their emotions without resorting to smoking.
Hypnotherapy for Vaping
Psychological Dependence: While vaping may not have the same level of physical addiction as smoking, it often involves a strong psychological dependence. Our hypnotherapy sessions focus on altering the mental associations and habits related to vaping. By reinforcing the idea that vaping is not necessary for relaxation or enjoyment, we help clients build a mindset that supports a vape-free lifestyle.
Health and Safety Awareness: Many individuals turn to vaping with the belief that it is a safer alternative to smoking. Our hypnotherapy approach includes educating clients about the potential health risks of vaping and reinforcing the benefits of a completely nicotine-free life. This awareness can strengthen the commitment to cessation and motivate clients to stay vape-free.
Behaviour Modification: Vaping often becomes a habitual behaviour linked to specific activities or social settings. Our hypnotherapy sessions work on breaking these habits and creating new, positive behaviours that are not associated with vaping. By reinforcing healthy routines and activities, clients can successfully transition away from vaping.
